"He is as well as he could be. He has promised to take a few days away for some rest starting today." She was silent for a moment. "I may not be able to get
away like this again until he returns."
"I understand. Next time, I'll come to you."
"Matthew, if you decide to retire, I will leave as well." This was not a threat
but a simple statement of fact.
He pursed his lips and shook his head. "That makes my decision much more difficult," he told her honestly. "While I have no doubt of Starfleet's abilities to get by without my talents, I am not nearly so confidant in its ability to get by without you."
