The techncian smiled patiently. Obviously, the ambassador did not understand
that authentication did not come with a swipe of a tricorder. Counterfeiters
had been working for centuries to develop "real" fakes. Their level of
sophistication was extraordinarily high. A true artist could make Jefferson
seem to have risen from the tomb and rewritten the American Declaration of
Independence (at that thought, he chuckled to himself at the tricks he had used
to do just that for his doctoral dissertation).

"Sir, the process of authentication will take time," he said. "I can only give
you a preliminary evaluation this evening."

(response)

Still not opening the document, the technician then scanned the DNA traces and
had the computer analyze it.

(results?)
