Jared watched as the barmaid walked off. He was eager to return to the subject at
hand. "Was the Captain willing to provide details that we could use to further the
investigation?"

"Yes. In fact he has filed a report. I am sure that he would be more than happy to
give you a personal testimony of events. However, contact Commander Kirk before you
contact Captain Boulay. Commander Kirk is the counselor that is overseeing his
recovery. She has told me that his is still a bit fragile. She can also detail his
physical injuries. Usual permissions granted of course."

Lasiter started in on his meal allowing Jared to comment.

"I will have to make sure to speak with Captain Boulay and Commander Kirk as soon as
possible. What are your impressions of the situation? Do you think there is an
extensive problem or could it be limited to a few folks?"

"Hard to say. I don't want to believe that Starfleet personnel could be involved.
At least not knowingly. I know that the rules of engagement are overly complex, and
that leads to confusion and frustration. That can easily be manipulated by people in
key positions, and that's where I think the problem originates."

Jared definitely did not like what he was hearing. That implied that a higher ranking
officer was involved. That meant the it did not mean ineptitude, but purposeful
actions backed by order. It also meant that it would be harder to root out. "I will
have to get right to work on this."

"Well, not tonight. Get some rest, and get settled in. Start in the morning after
you've had a good chance to get yourself set up in the VIP quest quarters. This will
most likely not be a quick task."

Considering just the quick overview that Lasiter had provided him with, he had no
doubt that this investigation was going to take a while.

Lasiter had eaten his meal during the conversation. It was one of the few things he
enjoyed that day. Now it was time to end his day.

"Well, my friend, I should go. Another day will start very early, and I should get
some rest. Well... try at least. Can I walk you to your quarters?"

Jared nodded. For him it had been a long day as well. "I think that would be nice."

Without saying another word, Lasiter flagged down Beatrice. Time to pay the bill.
Once that bit of business was taken care of, the two officers were free to leave. As
they walked their conversation picked right back up.

"Now there is a little bit of a annoyance that you will have to put up with,
Security... You will have to have a detail with you at all times. Along with the
many other problems that Starfleet has, missing officers is probably one one of the
most annoying. The detail should help prevent you from becoming one of them."

Jared by now noticed the shadow of Lasiter's detail that was with them. Naturally, at
a respectful distance.

He switches topics again... "I'm not sure if you knew Commander M'Rrenn, my long time
Chief of Staff. Well, he was killed in the sniper attack at Sam's funeral. I am
taking his body to his family in a few days. My leave will officially start once the
services are over on Cait...."
