Lasiter left his office, letting his executive assistant know that he was
heading to Adm. Brennan's office for a bit if anyone needed him.
The walk over did not take but 7 minutes. Seeing that the door was already
open, he stuck his head in and knocked on the wall.
"Doctor?"
"Yes, sir, come on in."
"Thank you. Let me get right to business. Do you remember a conversation that
we had a while ago about you not liking your security detail? Would you still
be interested in undertaking a small mission to get rid of them?"
"First, Admiral, let me be sure and say that it is not that I don't like them
as people, I just don't like having to have a security detail as a thing. And,
yes, I would be more than interested in undertaking any size mission to rid us
all of the necessity of added security. Having stepped down as CMO of
spacedock's infirmary, I find myself with a sudden paucity of anything
constructive to do, so the timing is excellent."
"Good. There is a conference dealing with the police actions that Starfleet is
engaged in. Diplomats from the planets involved, representatives from a number
of sentient beings rights groups, and Starfleet representatives will be
discussing the current status of the police actions. There are quiet rumblings
that Starfleet is being seen as not taking this conference seriously, since no
one from SF Command is attending. This provides a unique oppertunity. I would
like to send you and one, possibly two, others to the conference as bait to
lure out those that think that kidnapping a Starfleet Admiral is an easy task.
Do you still want in?", Lasiter was quite serious about the idea, but would not
hold it against the Doctor if he choose not to join up after hearing the basic
idea.
