Commander Shevab had extended the landing gear on his hoverboard, and was drinking what looked like dark oil as his small cilia grabbed burnt isolinear chips, shuttling them somewhere underneath his silicone body.

{The Great Mother would be highly upset if she had lived to see how large I have gotten, but then again my people were used to doing without as much food as we do now.} he said to the small group of Engineers around him.

"Are there many of your people in Fleet? asked his third in command.

{Yes there are. Many are into geosciences and mining but I am one of the few in Engineering. We have changed much since The Kirk found us many years ago, and maybe not for the better.}

He shifted a bit, took a deep pull of the viscous fluid,, {When the Great Mother died , slightly more than half returned to Janus Four for the ceremonies. My people are scattered through out the universes in search what anyone can guess. We are or were a naive people, and
the seduction of space and planets other than our own was too much.}

{Well, anyway, the best advice I can ever give is that because something can be done, it does not have to be done. My first ship posting was to the USS Wyoming, an old Enterprise D class as First Engineer. My Number 2 was Sunfur, Lt Knucklebiter's father, and our captain
was a Mr McWurther. Lt Sunfur and I quickly shared our interests in ship systems, and took advantage of some 'creative requisitioning' as our CO was not a very attentive and trusting being. We acquired two Class 3 warp drives, made for big freighters that only did Warp 3 at the time. Synched them to the larger warp core, which now powered only engines and small
subsystems like life support and replicators etc. Of the two other drives, one was for shields only and the other strictly ship's phasers.}

{Our secret was discovered during the first salvo of the Dominion War as we were jumped by 5 Cardasian Uglik Class Destroyers, who fired on us all at once. The Captain thought we were dead, but when the helmsman said we weren't even scratched, he ordered return fire, and their shields folded like wet scrith paper in a heavy breeze.

{It was my first Commendation, and my first Reprimand.} he said.

Celine LaLune-Ares had been listening to the Horta speak the whole time.  She had been impressed with the story and also with the party.  It could be a turning point for the department.

It was then that she noticed Admiral Renaud step up behind the Chief Engineer.  He indicated for her not to say anything before speaking up.  "Commander, what exactly is going on here?"

(Shevab?)

(OOC:  Guys, my apologies for paraphrasing here, but I could not find the original posts for Charles.  Let me know if they need to be adjusted in anyway or feel free to rewrite the changes you want.)
