The runabout soon dropped back behind and into position behind
the
Centurian. Ready to pop in and out of cover to fire off an opportune shot. The three vessels must have been finished with waiting. The two shuttles went after the Runabout and began firing, while the larger vessel let loose on the Centurian. The Back River stayed close to the Centurian using her for cover on her flank. However, she concentrated all of her fire power, such as it was, on anything and everything that came within range. The shields around the larger vessel sparkled as the shots from the Runabout hit them. It was clear that the new arrivals had taken a page from the the actions of the Starfleet vessels. The shuttles were within the shields of the "mother" ship. One of the torpedo bays from the "mother" ship flared to life as two torpedos burst forth and slammed into the Back River. The Runabout flew slightly off course and its shields fell to 15%. "Centurian, this is Back River. We're taking a beating, shields at 15%. We need to start plan B. By the way, we need to come up with plan B." {response} "Veer off, BAck River, and head away at full speed, back toward
Spacedock. If any of the ships break off to follow, concentrate your
shields and weapons aft. We'll back you up if need be. If they leave
you alone, get to cover and we'll follow just as soon as we mop up out here,"
Fitzgerald said. "Mr. Carrick, bring us under the big bogey, presenting
shields at max, dim the others to allow the diversion. Mr. Ares, as we
pass under, open up all phaser banks on their power core. See if you can't
punch through their shields and open their hull a bit."
"Aye sir. Back River out." With the comm channel closed, the
Back River veered off firing what ever it had left as the nearest target all the
while getting the heck outa dodge...
For the outsider, it would have looked like a finely choreographed space ballet as the Back River and the Centurian moved around to get into the necessary positions. Phaser and photon torpedo fire lanced out at the invading ships. The Back River's fire broke through shields of one of the shuttles and tore
off one of its wings as it moved off to race toward Spacedock.
Ariel Ares proved her own value as the Centurian let loose a full barrage
of firepower against the "mother" ship. The shields of the larger ship
buckled under the fire, but did not fully collapse. That did not mean that
the necessary shots did not get through to take out the power core. The
battle was over in less than 30 seconds.
