Visiting the next target," she answered.
After leaning back in his chair and putting his hands behind his head, Sam
replied, "That is up to you. Technically, I am just here to help out so
you can get things started on your own unless you would like me around as you
investigate."
Jaime was clearly disturbed at the prospect of being alone. She drew
an unsteady breath to speak, but she didn't say anything. She looked away;
her face registered the internal struggle. How could she do this?
Certainly Richard was looking for answers fast. Chase's presence proved
that. But she had been a spy for less than one day and was afraid of going
it alone. Had she known that Sam wasn't going to be around, she would have
accepted Chase's earlier offer. It was too late for that now.
She stood and walked over to the viewport, where Earth was framed in its
glory. Her twin brother, James, would expect her to go and not sit around
waiting for someone to hold her hand.
Her back to Sam and Chase, she answered quietly, "I'll go in the
morning."
Sam nodded in response. He could see that she still had to build up a
bit of self-confidence, but she had done wonders with her visit tot he
Bajorans. He would have been happy to join her, but he was glad to see
that she was able and willing to do it on her own. Besides, how dangerous
could the Aqualish be?
Sullenly, Jaime returned to the table and pushed the last of her salad
around in the bowl.
"Are their any sorts of establishments that cater to night life?" asked
Chase. "Like night clubs." "I think you will find that Spacedock is like a metropolis in the sky. It has just about everything you could want to find if you were planetside. Was their anything in particular that either of you would like to see?" Jaime took a last forkful of salad, then she gathered their plates and took them to the disposal. "I'm pretty open," she said with a bit more interest. "Then I guess it should be a mixture of work and pleasure. If you
want to keep your cover, you need to know where things are but also seem a bit
like tourists."
Chase stood up. "I guess we have our itinerary all laid out. I
am ready to get a start on the tour if both of you are ready.
"Let's go, then," Jaime said with her former gusto.
A smile spread across Sam's lips. In a way, these two reminded
him a bit like his younger siblings. It had been a long time since he had
that feeling. Since he was assigned to the station, there was little he
could do for fun since he had to concentrate on his work and his cover
story. Getting to close to people endangered the mission.
He stood up and picked up his uniform jacket. "Sounds good to
me. Would you guys mind if we stop by my quarters so I can change into
something a little less conspicuous?"
"No, I don't mind," Jaime answered and headed towards the door.
Sam started walking towards the door. He looked back, "You coming,
Chase?"
(Chase?)
