"In response to your previous statement, Captain Boulay is the JAG Chief, but he is an extremely talented and skilled individual. I never stated he was being given field commands, but he can consult on various situations." He continued not allowing the Rigelian a response in kind, "Both the Fleet Security Chief and Station Security are currently heading full investigations not only to solve these situations but prevent them in the future as well. In terms of whether I am needed sir that is not my decision. I work for Starfleet and I work for Admiral Samuel Lasiter. I am assigned my duties, and as my track record will show, I perform them to the utmost of my abilities. I am very proud of Spacedock and her crew and position within Starfleet. She will continue to be our crown jewel." He was not stuck up-just stating a fact.

Deltan Ambassador Aria finally chimed in. "Admiral Renaud, is it your opinion that you *should* perform both jobs? And that attempting to do so will notadversely affect both?"

"Ambassador Aria--To be concise-Yes and it will not affect both positions." He was as confident as he could be in the answer.

The Ambassador from Rigel caughed to suppress a chuckle.

Lorin looked directly at the Rigellian, "I am sorry Ambassador-do you need medical care?"

The Deltan ambassador saw Renaud's reaction as counterproductive, so she interjected before Rigel's ambassador had the chance to blow up. "Admiral Renaud, I admire your confidence, but understand that we have reasons for concern. During your watch as head of Spacedock operations, we have had two unsolved murders, at least two assassination attempts on a flag officer that remains open, and most recently, attacks on Star Fleet personnel that forced Admiral Lasiter to order all flag officers to relocate to Star Fleet Headquarters, apparently because the security there is better.

"If these matters remain unaddressed with your full-time presence, how are they and any others that occur later, going to be resolved with your attention divided?"

"I want to support your efforts with Research and Development. However, I find it extremely difficult to justify that under the current circumstances."

Sharez's antennae flipped back again in surprise. "Admiral, I believe you could have left the snide remarks outside of the conference room. I believe that there is a good reason to question whether you might be overextended in the current situation. That is not to say that you are not a very qualified officer, but as has already been stated. Space Station McKinly is not only an important facility, but a busy one. You yourself have already identified that your new assignment in R&D is fraught with the challenge of mismanagement and a need to clean things up. You have stated the support you receive from the staff on the station, but what about in R&D?"

Lorin was quiet for a half second before replying-he looked at the Rigellian Ambassador again, "I apologize-all of your feedback to me is important and necessary." He took a breath, "I support the move to SF HQ because of the amount of civilian traffic we have routed through Spacedock. No matter how good Security is, anytime you have a cluster of high brass, you are going to unwantedly encourage negative activity and it is unfortunate. Let me assure you that just because there is not visible activity it does not mean these are unaddressed cases. I believe that with recent actions taken by Commander K'Tael we should be able to close some of these cases shortly and I believe we will see a tie-in with the recent attacks on Admiral Lasiter. The time is being taken to make sure the proper results of arrests and convictions are obtained. I am not at liberty to give further details on that but I believe you will appreciate the results of the ongoing investigations."

"As for the Staff at R&D, I am pleased and impressed. While there are some understandable hard feelings over the departure of my predecessor, the staff have adapted to my Management style and intentions for the department. I am going to realign the department so the Chain of Command currently of myself and my Assistant Department Chief will be followed by Project Commanders who will be responsible for each individual project. This will add additional on-site accountability in addition to my visits and reports received. Further inspection of the previous mismanagement in accounting, delivery of services and procedural processes can only assist in this process. I will be pleased to send updates to this group as needed."

"Do I believe I can take these two programs? Truly I do. We are in a time of change. This time of change requires steady dependable leadership. Admiral Lasiter has trusted me in this dual role and as Spacedock's investigations continue and resolve, so will the current issues I've raised here today regarding R&D. I am asking for your trust and the opportunity to do so."

"It sounds like you have some good ideas, Admiral. The important thing for someone in your position is to make sure to put the job first. Ego and distraction cannot be allowed if we are going to have the type of research that we need to make sure that the Federation and Starfleet are on the cutting edge of innovation," said T'Sar. "How are things going with some of the other projects your team is working on?"
