The Runabout slid down onto Io and glided into the landing bay of Station
Kerry. The team had made it. Not only had they recovered the scientists,
but they had found a mysterious facility on the other end of the transport
system and recovered a mysterious woman while there.
It had only taken about 20 minutes to reach Io upon escaping from the
biological transportation device. During that time, the team had a small
debate about the benefits of Starfleet rations. In the end, the Doctor won
out, and they all ate their fill of much needed nutritional supplements.
That is not to say that it was done without the usual bickering.
Ian McTiernan turned from his station with a smile. "I do not know how to
thank you and your team, Commander. I am sure that I speak for Gabe and
Janice when I say that you were a Godsend."
"I am just glad that we were able to recover Mr Ares and Ms. Howser so
quickly." Aravis worked on the shut down sequence as they talked.
"Commander, I have a question for you. Have you noticed any increased
traffic in the area? It seems if that facility has been using that transit
point for some time, you should be starting to see more ships in the
area."
A look of intense thought came over McTiernan as he considered Holt's
question. "Now that you mention it, things have been busier than usual
out here. Not significantly different, but enough for us to notice."
The Security officer considered his response. She had to wonder why system
security was not informed, particularly considering the recent attacks on
the station and on Earth itself. This could be a break in the case. "What
types of vessels are they? Cargo ships? Shuttles?"
"They were mostly civilian ships. That was what was a little weird about
them. We do see civilian cruise and travel vessels, but we generally do not
see these smaller type vessels. Even the cargo vessels were not registered
with regular shipping companies."
"Why did no one on Kerry report this to anyone?" asked Aravis with concern.
"Was your facility not affected by the security crack down that came about
as a result of recent terrorist attacks?"
