"If I can assist you in any way before I leave, do let me
know."
"We'll see what happens..." There was something resigned about Levy... Bedru looked Levy directly in the eye, trying to read what he meant. Levy just smiled. "May I introduce the representatives of the Diplomatic Council?" She then proceeded to do just that. Dai'Cou stepped forward first, primarily because he was their representing the Council Chair. Once he was in front of the Emissary he leaned forward into a diplomatic bow. "I am Dai'Cou y Caimlyn of the Aqualish Union. On behalf of our embassy and the Chairwoman of the Diplomatic Council, I welcome you to Space Station McKinley." "Thank you for receiving me. Please extend the appreciation of my government and people for receiving our application for membership." Levy stepped forward, "Emissary...I am Assistant Federation Ambassador Levy. Please excuse the absence of Ambassador Watson-he has been called away on Diplomatic business." Marconis give Levy a quizical look. The fact that Watson was not there to greet him, was ... unexpected. The _expression_ was only fleeting. "His absence is unfortunate, but understandable. Duty first," he finally answered before moving on. "I am sure he will contact you as soon as he returns-in the meantime if there is anything I can do to assist you in settling in, I am at your disposal." "Thank you. I will be sure to keep that in mind." Bedru caught the _expression_. Her opinion of Watson dropped another notch. He had created this situation, then he left it for someone else to clean it up. The Klingon who stood at the back of the group bowed his head. "I am Cultural Liaison Koomah from the Klingon Empire." "It is an honor to meet you." Koomah bowed his head in appreciation of Marconis' address. Just then Ambassador Ael t'Khllrez strode into the meeting area. "My sincere apologies for my tardiness. Official business kept me until a time later than I had planned." By the time she finished speaking she had arrived next to Emissary Marconis. "I am Ael t'Khllrez, and I welcome you in the name of the Rihannsu," she said with a delicate bow. Marconis bowed his head slightly in way of greeting. "I look forward to learning more about your people." Once all of the Council representatives had met Marconis, she said,
"Emissary,
may I also introduce Admiral Lorin Renaud. He is chief of these facilities and head of Star Fleet's research and development programs." "Admiral," replied Marconis, bowing his head slightly. Lorin bowed his head slightly in return, "Emissary. Welcome to Spacedock. Please feel free to contact Ops if we can be of any assistance." As Lorin was answering, Admiral Lasiter and General A'amon entered. While there was nothing to announce their arrival, the Ramesar Guards did pay them attention. Unwelcome attention. This gave Marconis reason to stop his conversation with Lorin to look at the new comers. The initial _expression_ on Marconis' face was that of a diplomat, neutral curiosity. As his gaze continued, it changed to recognition. Not of an individual, but to a people. A people that were considered something other than a friend. Lorin turned his head and saw Aamon and Lasiter-this response would have to be examined. Dai'Cou did see the look of recongnition that slowly formed on the newcomers face. He wondered what this was due to. From the notes he had gone over from the Plantoc, there was no indication that any of the members of the Council had worked with the Ramesar besides the Federation. Ael, too, noticed and decided to file it away to look into at some later time. It became more clear when the Ramesar Emissary spoke, "Why are they here?" His question was posed with the coldness that betrayed his military background. Dai'Cou decided to step in since he was filling in for the Plantoc. "Since General A'amon is currently visiting the station in his position of leader of his people, I am sure that Admiral Lasiter thought it would be nice to allow him to meet the newest representative to apply to the Council. I am sure there was no insult intended." 'Great. What have I walked into now...', Lasiter thought to him self. Marconis' cold gaze had not quite left the General when he turned to address Dai'Cou. "There no reason for you to apologize. It is not reasonable to assume that you would have known that the Ramesar and Venasians have had dealings in the past. Especially, when those dealings left much to be desired." Judging from his tone, it was clear that what ever incident happened in the past, it was not a friendly one, and the passage of time had not dulled the memory. "However, it is comforting to see that some things don't change with the passage of time. They are still an arrogant, presumptuous people who over estimate their own worth. May their existence, parasitic as it is, pass without remark.", the Emissary added. Lasiter repeated his previous thought to him self before commenting further... "Well then.... Emissary Marconis, I'm Admiral Samuel Lasiter, the Commander of the Federation Starfleet, and welcome to the Federation. I'm sure that your presence at the Council will, at the very least, add a fresh measure of frankness to the discussions." Bedru was astonished at Lasiter's presumption that the Ramesar had already been admitted to the Council. Instead, she said, "Admiral Lasiter, would you be so kind as to introduce your guest for those who might not know him?" Lorin stood by and watched "Of course, my apologies. Emissary, Ambassadors, Representatives, this is General Tal A'amon the head of state for the Venasian government." "General," Bedru greeted with a nod. Once any others made their greetings, she said, "Gentlebeings, I believe that the Aqualish delegation has prepared a reception for us in their embassy. With your permission," she added with a nod to Dai'Cou, "Perhaps we should adjourn there." "Yes, let us move on to the festivities," picked up Dai'Cou who indicated the direction in which the party should move. "We have an offering of the music and foods of all the cultures that have representatives on the Council. We thought it would be a great way to introduce Emissary Marconis to us." (anyone?)
It took only a short walk down a hall to arrive at the Aqualish
Embassy. The ballroom was large and fully decorated in the style of the
Aqualish, but there was some Romulan music currently being played as the group
entered. There were a number of tables set up in scattered areas around
the room allowing for the sampling of various foods.
