After some more searching and troubleshooting, it's starting to sound 
like satellite/spacewalk server doesn't run well in VmWare at all. I 
wasn't aware of this issue. It sounds like there are some timing issues 
that can cause the proxy to crash and some hard disk issues that cause 
the oracle instability I've witnessed. So long story short, I shouldn't 
have run spacewalk server on vmware in the first place. I'll try to 
reinstall on a physical server instead. Thanks for all the help, everybody!
