For frequency, it really depends on how much lag you want to have
between the hardware change and the profile update, running
rhn-profile-sync in cron.weekly/monthly should do the trick.

Thanks for all the tips and advices, we finally add a "rhn-profile-sync"
call in a custom start script and in a cronjob:
21 46 * * 6 root sleep `expr $RANDOM \% 600` ;
/usr/sbin/rhn-profile-sync
