We are currently using NIM for deployment of LPARs and for deploying service packs and technology levels. It does work great and has a lot of nice features, but like I said, the more centralized we can get, the better.

AIX comes with excellent tools for provisioning and monitoring right out of the box. HMC and NIM. Feature sets are very robust in each of those products. I highly recommend them for any AIX shop.

And why you don't use linux for power arch if you are need to use rpm based stuff in LPARS?
