We're already doing what you suggested, but I was hoping that I could just do a neat little Apache intercept and rewrite the request so the package was pulled from a different repository or something to that effect. Isn't yum effectively just doing an HTTP GET for the package download portion? Seems like if I had my repository mirrored globally, I could just intercept that request and rewrite it so that it goes to the appropriate, geographically closest filer to get the package.
