I did

  yum install geronimo-jta-1.1-api.noarch
  /usr/sbin/spacewalk-service restart

and now it seems to be working (at least going to the web site now
gives me the Create Spacewalk Administrator page).

SO I guess there is some dependency missing since it was not installed
when I did a 'yum install spacewalk-postgresql'

The geronimo-jta-1.1-api is providing jta which is required by
spacewalk-java. So the question is -- what got installed on your
machine instead of geronimo-jta-1.1-api to meet that jta dependency?

[root@spacewalk init.d]# rpm -q --whatprovides jta
geronimo-j2ee-1.4-apis-1.2-13.jpp5.noarch
geronimo-jta-1.1-api-1.2-13.jpp5.noarch

So the original 'yum install spacewalk-postgresql' must have pulled in
that geronimo-j2ee-1.4-apis-1.2-13.jpp5.noarch to satisfy the dependency
but it obviously doesn't work
