correction it seams to break down on line 64 of /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/spacewalk/satellite_tools/repo_plugins/yum_src.py in class YumUpdateMetadata there is handling for gzip files but none for bz2. but the other part I mentions should also be patched. I'm thinking its time to take this to the dev list and create a matching ticket.
