Between major versions you need to do a fresh install. So from 4.x to 5.x to 6.x and eventually to 7.x you need to do a new install.
The best thing is to build a new box and migrate. The second choice is to pull the disks and put new ones in that way to roll back all you need to do is shutdown pull the new disks and put the old ones back in. The third option is to do a full backup of /
In any case you will need to migrate your data and config to the new install. Spacewalk can help with an misplace rebuild but its not the answer in this case.

I don't know that it is possible.
The easiest way, if you install a new machine.

Hi All,
I want to upgrade the RHEL 4 server . This is production machine. I would like how can I rollback the changes if something goes wrong? I am going to upgrade the RHEL server by running command "up2date -uf".
I have below version installed right now:
"Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 8)". I tried to run below command on staging server but i came to know that it is not supported in this version.
Please let me know is there any procedure to do rollback the installed rpm.
up2date --list-rollbacks
This feature is deprecated and no longer functional
