Update: Sander says:

(09:33:20) justinmason23: Dan was under the impression we could get that
set up as a top-level list, on @apache.org -- was that correct?
(09:41:54) Sander/ASF: no, that wasn't correct
(09:42:22) Sander/ASF: @apache.org addresses are pretty rare (except for
committers ofcourse)
(09:42:41) justinmason23: ah, do the lists have their own domain?
(09:42:52) Sander/ASF: infrastructure, board, apmail, secretary, abuse,
root, ... that's about it I guess.
(09:42:58) Sander/ASF: Subdomain per project
(09:43:11) Sander/ASF: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], etc.
(09:43:19) justinmason23: ok. in that case it's not an option
(09:43:26) Sander/ASF: We need you guys to go TLP and get
spamassassin.apache.org
(09:43:26) justinmason23: because that domain doesn't exist yet ;)
(09:43:31) Sander/ASF: Right
(09:43:46) Sander/ASF: We can preset the List-Id.
(09:43:50) justinmason23: that was it
(09:43:51) Sander/ASF: IOW, lie ;)
(09:44:15) Sander/ASF: List-Id: "SpamAssassin users"
<[email protected]>

So Dan, 'fraid you misheard. The List-Id can be set to a non-incubator
addr, but since the non-incubator TLP for SpamAssassin doesn't exist yet
- -- and shouldn't until we're out -- using that addr for From/To/list-admin
won't be possible. So we have to use incubator.apache.org for that.

Not a biggie, IMO.

Also, I'll go for Duncan's idea -- subscribe SpamAssassin-talk at
lists.sf.net to SpamAssassin-users at incubator.apache.org, so messages
go to both.

However, -talk at lists.sf.net will have to be set moderated, so that
posting is not possible -- otherwise we'll have two lists, one with
messages flooded into the other, and one without.

So: summary:

- - we open up a new <SpamAssassin-users /at/ incubator.apache.org> list,
  with no default subscriber list

- - we join ;) Also, committers who would like to help with moderation
  would be great.

- - we post a message to SpamAssassin-talk noting the new list; also
amend list info page, list description, and lists.html

- - set -talk to moderated status, so posting is impossible

- - subscribe -talk to -users, so that postings to -users are flooded
  through to -talk

- - let people subscribe to -users as they like

- - once we move out of the incubator, Apache will be able to
transition the incubator subscriber list to the apache.org one

- - they will also be able to set List-Id header to remain the same
  for both lists (Malte's request)

- - advise MARC of list move

- - advise GMANE of list move (Malte has volunteered ;)

I've created http://wiki.spamassassin.org/w/IncubatorToDo to track this
and other infrastructure tasks. Sorry Dan. ;)
