The issue may already be solved via the doco updates I made. --sync says to syncronize the journal and the db, then exit. --nosync says that if doing a learning operation, don't syncronize the journal and the db at the end. (nosync also means "learn to journal" versus a lack of --nosync meaning "learn to db", but that's another issue) --sync isn't a learning operation, so the options really have no impact on one another, except that they both deal with "syncronizing the journal to the db" for different modes of operation of sa-learn.
