The "version reporting" is not mandatory but the default. I for example have
the following lines in my local.cf:
clear_headers
add_header all Checker-Version SpamAssassin/_VERSION_
<http://spamassassin.org>
add_header spam Flag _YESNOCAPS_
add_header all Summary _YESNO_, scored _HITS_/_REQD_ from _TESTS_
(learned: _AUTOLEARN_, bayes: _BAYES_, autowhitelist: _AWL_) on
_HOSTNAME_ via _REMOTEHOSTNAME_; _DATE_
Which overwrites all the default values.
