They both have specific (but similar) purposes.  The links to the RFCs the
others provide explain it.  It really boils down to personal preference.
I recall a number of conversations in NANAE and the Sendmail newsgroup
where the experts went into a lengthy arguement about it.  I just chose to
use 553.  It all works out in the end.  The spammers wouldn't read it if
it were 123, 666, or the demensions of a female body.  They probably
wouldn't understand it even if they did read it. :)
