Greg,
what type of implementation of SA do you have? you mentioned that you are
using sendmail as your MTA, do you have any type of Milter installed to run
SA? or are you calling SA from procmail (via ~/.procmailrc or something) ?
as an example, i'm using sendmail 8.12.9 with MIMEDefang (as a milter) which
calls virus scanner and SA before relaying to my exchange server internally.
this setup has been working really nicely since I've gotten it configured.
the other thing you want to be careful of is, if your hub machine is
configured as a secondary or terciary MX host for the domain, some spammers
will send mail directly to the secondary (or later) MX hosts directly to try
to avoid spam filters. if SOME of your mail is getting filterd for the hub
machine and SOME of it isn't, this might be what's happening.
