As I'm writing this to you, I'm sending Julian Field (developer & maintainer 
of MailScanner) a patch that does just this for ZMailer... I think they don't 
have this problem with Sendmail, but I don't know about other supported 
MTAs... anyway, my patch is quite easy to adapt to the other MTAs supported 
by MailScanner, should it be needed...
