sorry about the top-posting - every mailing list seems to be different... frustrating..

nope, i pasted it right from the linux server maillog - maybe that's why the funky chars?

Yep, textpad is my best friend for years now, but I usually use 'nano' on the server, as I stink at VI, and emacs! :-)

I'll try making sure they are spaces, and see what happens..

thanks Chris,

jamie

Top posting because it is overcast outside...

Hmmm....I see no syntax errors in those rules. It should lint. It must be
the tab vs. space problem. I have my text editor replace all tabs with
space. So try using just spaces. Also did you paste this from a windows
machine? The end of line markers get all goofy when you do that.

If you are using a windows box, TEXTPad is your best friend.

Sure.. The rules I posted in local.cf were from a separate thread the other day about logo design firm spam.. here they are:

uri LOC_LOGOSITE /snapshut\.com/i
describe LOC_LOGOSITE Logo Site
score LOC_LOGOSITE 0.5
body LOC_LOGOOBFU /(?!logo)[l1I][o0][gq][o0]/i
describe LOC_LOGOOBFU Logo Obfuscated
score LOC_LOGOOBFU 0.5

body __LOGOS /(?:\b[ILl]o[gq]o[s]?\b.*){4}/
body __BAD_LOGOS /\bIo[gq]o(?:s)?\b/
body __POOR_QUALITY /gua[lI]ity/

meta    SNAPPY_LOGOS  (__LOGOS && (__BAD_LOGOS || __POOR_QUALITY))
describe SNAPPY_LOGOS Get your free logos here! Only $19.95 each!!
score SNAPPY_LOGOS 5.0

uri SNAPSHUT /www\.snapshut\.info/
score SNAPSHUT 5.0
describe SNAPSHUT An open-and-shut case of Spam!

here's the errors from debug mode:

is there a special format to the rules like "must be tabs", etc?

thanks!
jamie

Well you can put them in local.cf, or in seperate cf files in the
/etc/mail/spamassassin dir.

Failed to parse might just mean the rule has syntax errors.

Can you post the

rule(s) you added?

Ok, i cant' seem to figure this out - what file(s) would I

put custom

rules into? I tried local.cf and user_prefs, but I get debug errors (can't parse blah, blah)...

sorry if this a dumb question, but I just can't seem to figure out where I would put them?

thanks to all as always,
jamie
