in these last weeks i monitored my spamassasin configured with sql db cause i noticed a strange thing. by the debbugging log i see it checks db to catch withelist but in the header of the mail i don't see a USER_IN_WHITELIST in the spamassassin header. if the same whitelist is in the local.cf, spamassassin recognizes it and don't tag the email as spam. anyone know why i have this problem?
Ok.. First things first. SpamAssassin has multiple systems that go by the name of whitelist.
First, there's the USER_IN_WHITELIST system. This is triggered by whitelist_from or whitelist_from_rcvd statements in your configfiles. Purely manual only.
Second, there's the "auto whitelist" which shows up as the AWL rule. This system is neither a whitelist nor a blacklist, but exhibits a bit of both behaviors in an automatic fashion by averaging the historic average score for that sender with the current score.
With that in mind, can you be more specific about the problem?
What exact things do you see in the debug log (munge IPs and addresses if you wish)?
