I have never had this working, so I setup my /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file like so...

use_auto_whitelist 1

that's only valid for 3.0, btw. if you're running 2.x, you need to put -a on the commandline. you don't mention what version you're using.

doh. I'm slow, you'll have to forgive me. I'm using 2.61. And I do put -a on the command line when calling spamd. I turned on debuging, this is what I get:

May 25 23:26:15 moya spamd[16417]: debug: lock: 16417 created /var/spamd/white/.lock.moya.tpno.prv.16417
May 25 23:26:15 moya spamd[16417]: debug: lock: 16417 trying to get lock on /var/spamd/white/ with 0 retries
May 25 23:26:15 moya spamd[16417]: debug: lock: 16417 link to /var/spamd/white/.lock: link ok
May 25 23:26:15 moya spamd[16417]: debug: Tie-ing to DB file R/W in /var/spamd/white/
May 25 23:26:15 moya spamd[16417]: debug: unlock: 16417 unlink /var/spamd/white/.lock
May 25 23:26:15 moya spamd[16417]: debug: open of AWL file failed: Cannot open auto_whitelist_path /var/spamd/white/:

Now...I'm not expert at the best of times, and I am currently sleep deprived, but it looks like it can read and write to my /var/spamd/white directory. I'm not entirely sure what the problem is.

Thank you for your help so far, I appreciate it.

Sean
