Is there any other way to call spamassassin besides with spamc like I'm doing?
I would definately look into amavisd-new - I have a very similar machine, except it's a dual 2.6ghz Xeon with 6gb RAM. :)
2 x 10krpm 36gb u160 drives in RAID 1, too. The box barely breaks a sweat. Load average is 0.03 at the highest. There are probably about 50,000 to 60,000 messages hitting it per day (vast majority are just plain junk and go right in the bitbucket)
amavisd-new might be just what you're looking for. :)
