Hello All,

A long time ago, I tried to install SpamAssassin from OpenBSD's ports
collection, and was unsuccessful. Recently, I decided to try installing it
manually...and have run into a weird set of circumstances that I'm hoping I can
get some help with.

To cut to the chase, here's the sequence of events on my side and the current
status of things:

1. Sometime in 2003: install SpamAssassin from ports, never get it up and
running.
2. Two days ago: having forgot my earlier install, download SA from the main web
site, manually build it and install it. Everything built fine, tests ran
OK....but cat <Maildir file that's a spam> | spamc -c gives me 0/0, the failure
code.
3. Today: uninstall SA from ports, try again, same result.
4. Uninstall SA with a "make uninstall" from my manual install dir; try again,
same result.
5. Completely delete everything on my system remotely named SpamAssassin -- all
the binaries, stuff in /usr/local/libdata/perl5/site_perl, etc. Reinstall SA via
CPAN. Test again...same result.

What's weirdest about this is that `cat <spam-file> | spamassassin -t` will work
fine and tell me it's a spam. For whatever reason, though, I can't get spamc to
play nice.

Anyone with any thoughts on the cause of this problem, I'd greatly appreciate
hearing from you.

Alex Kirk
