Your error message could indicate that your SpamAssassin has trouble finding your Berkely DB libraries. At least, when I encountered that error, it always did. So you might be able to learn to the journal, but then cannot not sync that journal into the db proper. Try using the -D option with sa-learn if that tells you anything.
