Hello all,

I recently changed E-mail machines, upgrading from:

Win2K Pro Version 5.0.2195 SP4/Outlook (2002) 10.6515.6735 SP3/SpamBayes rev 0.81

     to

WinXP Pro Version 5.1.2600 SP2/ Outlook (2002) 10.6515.6735 SP3/SpamBayes rev 1.04

I transferred my training files (default_message_database.db, default_bayes_database.db) to my new machine.

When I run Outlook on the new machine, during Send/Receive, the filter function transfers files to the SPAM & SPAM_SUSPECTS folders as expected, but then the files are moved BACK into my INBOX, often with different spam scores than those I observed (briefly) in the SPAM folders.  Files that “bounce back” from my SPAM folder are marked as read (as instructed for items moved the SPAM folder), while items that bounce back from my SPAM_SUSPECTS folder are marked as unread (again, as instructed).  Note that this is observational and anecdotal data – the “bounceback” is quite rapid, so I haven’t been able to capture a listing to verify/document some of this behavior.

If I then mark all the “bounced” mail as unread and filter unread messages manually (with no Send/Receive in progress), the filter works as expected, and the mail stays in the appropriate folders.

Despite transferring the training files, SpamBayes is acting semi-untrained, with certain types of messages that it used to pick up as spam now going undetected.

I tried un-intalling SpamBayes 1.04 and installing 0.81 (which has worked great on my old machine for a long time) and got the same behavior (“bounceback” and odd scoring) on the new machine.

Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?  Is there a pilot error involved here (I hope)?  Is there more data that I could collect on this problem?

   Thanks for any assistance,

       Ken Goekjian
