Thank you for the reply. What you say matches my expectations. However, once I stopped passing the email through SpamBayes, the machine has stopped crashing. Possibly the problem is whatever was causing the underlying error that crashed SpamBayes. I have tried the machine diagnostics, and nothing appears to be broken. But I will keep watching for outside problems.
