Since (by convention) the hosts filename does not include an extension, Windows is not sure how to open it. (Don't get me going on the foolishness of relying on a file's name to tell you how to process it.) The file is text, though, so you can open it with Notepad, WordPad, or any other text editor.

OK, thanks I found a file named hosts. There's also one named IMHosts. Now that I found it, what do I do? When I try to open it, I'm told to choose the program I want to use to open it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jesse Pelton" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Nat" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <spambayes@python.org> Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2008 3:29 AM Subject: RE: [Spambayes] HOW DO I SET UP PORTS FOR MULTIPLE SERVERS? The hosts file on Windows is %WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, where %WINDIR% is most commonly c:\windows. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2008 7:47 AM To: Nat Cc: spambayes@python.org Subject: Re: [Spambayes] HOW DO I SET UP PORTS FOR MULTIPLE SERVERS? Alternatively, check the hosts file on your computer to make sure it has a definition for localhost. (I'm not a Windows person, so I can't begin to guess where that might be.) I've cc'd the spambayes mailing list on this reply. There are many others on that list with more Windows expertise who can help with these sorts of issues.
