I have prepared a form letter which I send out to any company
advertised in spam sent to me for which I can find a contact email
address likely to be read by a human. Feel free to modify and use
yourself. Comments welcome.

Thank you for your attention.

I received your contact information in an unsolicited broadcast email.
I will never purchase any item advertised this way. The sender of the
email claimed I had signed up for his opt-in service. I have never
signed up for any broadcast email service.

My primary goal is to stop all unsolicited broadcast emails to the
ideogram.com domain (I own this domain and all email addresses in it).
I cannot use the supplied unsubscribe link in the email I received
because:

(1) The sender of the email has already lied to me once.
(2) I do not have any way to verify the sender's compliance.
(3) Bulk emailers in general have a bad reputation and everyone says
using the supplied unsubscribe link simply gets you more email.
(4) I wish to stop all present and future unsolicited broadcast emails
to the ideogram.com domain, not just the address used for that email.

I cannot establish contact or trust with the sender of the email
because only you know who he really is.

I understand your time is valuable and I would not take it if there
was any other way. But yours is the only contact information I trust.

(1) Let me ask you not to send any more solicitations to the
ideogram.com domain. This will save you time since I will no longer
have to contact you.

(2) If the bulk emailer told you he was using an opt-in list, he lied.

(3) Some bulk emailers have contracts that pay according to the number
of emails sent. If your contract is worded this way, then the bulk
emailer makes more money sending your email to me and others like me
even though we will never buy anything.

I have the email and can forward it to you (minus information
identifying the recipient) if you need it to identify which bulk
emailer sent it. But I will only give it to you if you can help me.

I need a way to verify compliance.  I am not sure how to do this;
perhaps there is some information tied to the bulk emailer which is
difficult to change that his other clients would also have access to,
such as the second, fourth, sixth, and eighth digits of his taxpayer
ID number.

I do not need anything that would allow me to contact or harass him,
just something that would point to him if he sent me email on behalf
of another client.

Without this kind of verification his assurances that he has removed
me from his list are worthless.

I hope you agree that preventing him from sending email to me on
behalf of his other clients will benefit those clients.

Finally, I do not know how you evaluate bulk emailer services, but it
seems to me that a system that allows me to verify his compliance
would also allow you and other clients to share feedback on his
performance, similar to the eBay ratings. If you are interested in
discussing these issues, I am willing to set up a mailing list. It
would be open to all interested parties and participants could remain
anonymous. Whether you trust it would depend on whether you trust me.

I am sorry this turned out to be so long. Thank you very much for
your time.

Adam
