There seems to me to be a bug in the way that python authenticates smtp 
sessions. 'preferred_auths' is an array of authentication types. If the 
first type fails, other types are not attempted, and perhaps should be.

I'm not sure if Eudora uses the standard python libraries or not, but if 
it does, you might try editing 
/usr/lib/python2.4/smtplib.py/usr/lib/python2.4/smtplib.py (or the 
version you're using), find the 'preferred_auths' definition near line 
558, and change the order so that the method you know works is listed first.

Please report back your result if you try this. This is no permanent 
fix, but your result will help with bug reporting. I hope to get a bug 
report created if there isn't one already.
