Thanks for responding and, yes - years ago I followed the Qmailrocks
how-to and the thing has been humming along for years. It's far past time
that I did some updating. I did add the call to spamhaus.org and that
helped things. But - to answer your question - this is, essentially the
Qmailrocks install on Slackware 12.1 (with the latest ver. of Clamav and a
somewhat dated version of Spamassassin) and...well, it works fine. I also
changed the bounce directive in all of the domain's .qmail-default files
because I am using Comcast and the bounces were putting my smtp output
into the stratosphere. I created an email account called "j...@mydomain"
and send emails to non-existant accounts there (which does not create an
external SMTP session). I need to add J. Simpsons validrcptto patch -
that's next. My point in all of this is that - to a very large extent -
this is a qmailrocks install (with a couple of minor modifications).

I tarred the files in question before jerking around with them. I simply
reconstituted the working files when this failed. ps -aux gives
readproctile errors with something about tcp - as I said, I'm something
of an idiot with this stuff. All I know is that when I read the docs
they said, at minimum, I could do ./configure & make, copy the binary to
/usr/local/bin, and add a line to my smtpd-run file and it would
work...to a limited extent. It didn't.

I am on this mailing list using my mail server.

Thanks again..
