I think quite a few servers send with TLS these days, so I don't think it's odd at all. Timeouts aren't all that uncommon from spammers, but you shouldn't be seeing them from legit senders. I'd check the size of the message if you can (from the sender). It's possible that the sender is timing out while your QMT is scanning it.
