Right— Address Book compatibility is recommended since without it you
risk duplicated contacts and/or incorrect name and street address
data. FWIW, this all comes down to Google's choice not to store first/
middle/last names and street address fields separately.

For Gmail autocomplete, it should work as long as you're typing part
of the first or last name; just not both.
