This may be unrelated to what is happening, so if this does not work
for you, please create a report and send it to us.

If you merge contacts, what is essentially happening is one contact
record is deleted and the other is changed.  This is sent to Spanning
Sync and then on to Google.  It appears to be random which Google
processes first and some contact data obviously gets lost in the
process.  If you ever merge contact data, you should perform a "Start
Over..." in the Advanced section of Spanning Sync to get the correct
data on Google.
