I've heard of that alert coming up before but I'm not sure what causes it, since our uninstaller *knows* exactly where the software lives. You can uninstall it manually by deleting these items:
~/Library/Application Support/SpanningSync /Library/Application Support/SpanningSync /Library/PreferencePanes/SpanningSync.prefPane "~" refers to your home folder.
