Spanning Sync uses the basic APIs to store your Google credentials on
the keychain, so if it's failing then chances are many other things
are (silently?) failing on your system and you'll want to rectify
whatever keychain issues are going on. Keychain Access has a "first
aid" feature that might be useful. Worst case scenario-- create a new
keychain.

To answer your question: No, there's no way to keep Spanning Sync from
accessing the keychain. The client uses your Google name and password
to get the authorization token which is sent to our servers. Storing
your credentials anywhere other than the keychain would be unsecure.
