I think the most obvious is: people who are concerned that Google will backfill all the functionality of Spanning Sync for free... By paying less "per year", you are hedging against general and specific advances that reduce the inherent value of Spanning Sync, while still supporting them for their effort. For a single person/license, it probably makes little sense... But for large groups, this would be a huge factor in favor of Spanning Sync over alternatives - and businesses generally like this kind of arrangement anyway.
Either way, I think based on the pace of progress, you'll never hit a point with the subscription that you'll say "darn, I wish I had purchased outright!" - either Google will take care of your needs, or Spanning Sync will continue to innovate out ahead of the herd. The only place subscriptions really fall down is where the software/service doesn't improve incrementally - ad until Symantec buys Spanning Sync, I don't think we need to worry about them freezing updates/improvements/etc. On Mon, Mar 16, 2009 at 11:48 AM, Trevor <[email protected]> wrote: > > I am a little confused over the benefits of subscribing to Spanning > Sync for an annual fee verses purchasing Spanning Sync for a one time > fee.
