Currently Spanning Sync doesn't sync contact groups, so you'll need to manually create groups in Google that correspond to your Address Book groups, sync, and then manually assign group information to your contacts in Google. From then on, contacts will stay in their proper groups on Google unless you "Replace Data on Google" from Spanning Sync.
