Byron's right--Google doesn't allow API access (and therefore sync access) to their new Sports calendars. Weird. They don't even provide an ICAL version of the calendar so you can subscribe in other apps.
However, many of the public calendars you can access in Google Calendar do provide an ICAL version. Just go to their details in Google Calendar, click the ICAL link, and subscribe to them directly in iCal. Please let me know if you have any questions or run into any problems.
