I just heard from Google that they've identified "some intershard
issues" causing this problem and are working on them now. As soon as I
know more, I'll post here.

In the mean time, you may be able to work around the problem by
deleting "subscribed" calendars (e.g., US Holidays, sports schedules,
etc) in Google Calendar.
