Persistence paid off - I noticed Google Calendar was reporting "could not generate calendar list" in the Web interface when I tried to delete RTM. I tried again and this time it deleted it. Got a clean sync from SS. (Which eliminates my concern about the TripIt subscription.) Keeping my fingers crossed for the next sync.
