It's possible that the login item is pointing to the wrong location. Try this:
* Open the Accounts pref pane, go to login items, and delete anything with "Spanning" in the name. * Open the Spanning Sync pref pane. It should automatically add itself to the login items list, which you can now check by going back to Accounts.
