I'm currently evaluating the best method to sync my calendar and
contacts between my Mac and my iPod Touch (and I'll probably get an
iPhone next). I was testing MobileMe, and it seemed to work ok, but
when I switched to the new Calendar Beta, I was not happy. I don't
want to use an @me.com email address. I had ical sending my
appointments out via my regular IMAP account hosted elsewhere and I
was happy with how that worked. Now with MobileMe and CalDAV, the
appointments go out from me.com, which I don't like (and my invitees
get an email that they have to go to a web site to get the ics file,
don't like that). I also don't like paying $99/year for that.

So I started looking and came across Spanning Sync. This looks very
promising, but a lot of the info and data out on this is quite
incomplete/confusing to me and I'm trying to piece it together. So
can someone confirm the following for me:

1) Spanning Sync appears to sync my "on my Mac" calendars with my
Google Calendars. Appointments I send go out from my other IMAP
account, like they used to. However, when I look at the appointments
on Google, all the Attendee/Invitee information is missing. From old
posts, this was a limitation I gather? But is this still a
limitation? I cannot tell.

2) There is talk on the product site about syncing to iPhone/iPod as
well. As far as I can tell, this product doesn't do anything for
that, right? Is the best option to use the Google Sync (Exchange/
ActiveSync) option for this? I'm testing it now, and it works, but of
course, I don't see any invitees/attendee info. I do want to sync
"over the air". CalDAV form the iPhone/iPod won't do contacts, so I
ruled that out.

3) I guess this is really a Google Sync question, but I notice that if
I send appointments from my iPod and pick one of my other calendars, I
cannot add any invitees. Only on my first/primary calendar can I add
an invitee. Is that by design or is this some result of me syncing
with Spanning Sync?

Thanks for clearing up the confusion for me.. my head is spinning!!
