Roderic,

You should call MobileMe support. I got the exact same error when
trying to downgrade some of my Family Plan calendars. After a long
session with support, the short version is that calendars created or
modified after November can no longer be downgraded per the Apple
support folks - apparently that is what the "unexpected server error"
is.

I hope you have better luck than I did.
