Since I last wrote, the other account stopped working, too.

I have disabled Spanning Sync now as it was wreaking havoc with my calendars, 
taking off events from some calendars and not adding events to others.

I have started a trial of Busy Cal which, although not as convenient as 
Spanning Sync, seems to be working.

I will follow these threads and when you or Google or whoever have solved the 
problem, I will re-enable Spanning Sync.
