Hi Simon, You're getting hit by this widespread Google outage. The outage is sporadic for some so it makes sense that things seem to be syncing at times for you. Unfortunately you'll have to wait it out with the rest of us for Google to find and resolve the issue. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
